Euromash
The Eurovision song contest is traditionally held in May, however thanks to Johanna Allen we can have our own Eurovision at The Queens featuring Allen as all the contestants in Euromash.
There seems to be no accent she cannot master: French, Italian, Spanish, German, Russian, and English of course. After the first number she had me convinced she was Spanish.
Our sixty minute trip around Europe features the music of Piaf, Piazzolla, Michel Le Grand, Weil & Bizet joins Kylie Minogue, Rosemary Clooney, and Madonna & Leonard Cohen.
Her voice seems to know no bounds. She takes us to the giddy heights usually reserved for Christine from Phantom of the Opera to the breathy chanteuse of French cabaret. She can switch vocal styles at the drop of a hat and paces the show at top speed carrying us along with her.
Johanna possesses the ability to take a song made iconic and making it her own while still honouring the original intention of the artist and composer.
She is joined by Mark Fergusson on piano and Julian Ferraretto on violin, mandolin and saw. There is a real chemistry between the three performers and the enjoyment they have for creating music together is obvious.
My personal favourites are ‘Dance Me’ in her Russian adventure, her eerie, sensual version of ‘Mack The Knife’ complete with piano percussion and musical saw accompaniment and the combination of ‘So in Love’ and ‘If You Go Away’.
Euromash featuring Johanna Allen is sixty minutes of high-octane vocal versatility with just the right amounts of comedy, sincerity, and some of the songs we all love!
