Dr AudioYO’s Giant Adventure
Playing as part of the AWESOME International Arts Festival for Bright Young Things, Dr AudioYO’s Giant Adventure is a fascinating one woman show that captivated its audience and had them hanging on every …. sound.
After a friendly chat from creator Holly Austin, a highly personable performer who encourages her mostly young audience to get involved, Dr AudioYO’s Giant Adventure is an almost wordless show that uses mime and human created sounds to tell an interactive adventure story. Creating sounds in a similar manner to Michael Winslow of Police Academy movies fame, Holly Austin uses her own vocal skills and a worn looping device to create a rich and exciting soundscape that guides this adventure.
Lots of audience involvement, including at the opening performance a butter-wouldn’t-melt-in her-mouth young girl who revealed murderous intent, this story offers “choose your own adventure” moments that keep the children always leaning into the story.
Holly is a captivating performer whom the audience embraced almost immediately, and as a teacher I found myself wishing that I had brought my whole class (or my whole school).
Imaginative fun that has the audience engrossed; the only drawback is that if you take your children, they may be trying to make strange sounds for months. Sheer delight.
