Club Swizzle
We marveled at the acrobatic champagne fountain, but the fun bubbled along all night at Club Swizzle. No surprise that this show attracted a champagne sponsor.
Cabaret with a dash of burlesque and a liberal splash circus, you can savor this lively cocktail of variety entertainment while sipping on one of the alcoholic variety.
Just months ago Sydney audiences were reminded of Sydney’s once vibrant nightclub / speakeasy culture in the immersive theatre production Hidden Sydney - The Glittering Mile. Now Club Swizzle converts the Studio, at the Opera House, into a bustling, lively retro nightclub, and for some audience members this experience also becomes pretty immersive.
Androgynous MC Murray Hill sets the tone for an evening of risqué fun, with house band Mikey and the Nightcaps pumping out smokin’ music.
The four Swizzle Boys, fresh from shaking pre-show cocktails, launch into all manner of acrobatic treats throughout the evening, some of it with a pretty high level of difficulty, all of it with a high level of fun.
Comic chanteusse Amy G delights with her roller skate antics, before taking the kazoo to a whole new adults only comedy level. And that's without even mentioning her marvellous vocals.
Laurie Hagen playfully turns the rules of striptease and burlesque on their head.
Dandy Wellington adds an elegant touch of Harlem, with classic song and dance.
Brisbane-based performer Alice Muntz, substituting briefly for regular aerialist Alex Royer, did so with ample thrills and grace.
Evoking the ambience an earlier era, equal parts bar, show and party, Club Swizzle is perfect escapist entertainment for a Sydney summer night, just metres from the harbour.
I had great fun!
