The Bureau of Untold Stories
The Bureau of Untold Stories is one of a handful of shows which kicked off FringeWorld 2020, with performances on the morning of the first day - and what a delightful way to kick off a festival of many stories.
In Brymore Productions' delightful, largely improvised romp, the staff of this bureau, Dexter Sharp (Sean Brymore) and Poppy Hasluck (Holly Brymore) are faced with the conundrum that the world’s stories are disappearing thanks to a mysterious villain known only as The Eraser. Dexter and Polly have to recruit a new detective and save the world’s stories.
The duo of performers are highly personable, very funny and play beautifully off each other, improvising with aplomb.
This would play beautifully to school groups, and as a Primary teacher, this is a production I would love to have my students experience. I am sure it would inspire a plethora of creative work. Equally exciting as a school holiday treat, it was a shame that the session I attended only played to a handful of children. Exciting and dynamic with a tiny audience, this show would soar if playing to a large group, as it is designed for frantic and energetic audience interaction.
A show that not only entertains but encourages its audience to get out and create their own stories in any form - I hope this show attracts the audiences it deserves.
