Brown Women Comedy

Brown Women Comedy
Riverside Theatres and Sydney Comedy Festival. Riverside Theatres Parramatta. 23 – 25 April, 2025

If you’re looking for variety, Riverside Theatre is the place to go! Productions from all over the country make their way to Parramatta courtesy of the folk at Riverside. Director Craig McMasters and his team have an overview that encompasses theatre in all its forms – for kids and adults. Their very varied seasons reach across generations and cultures … and their large, multicultural Western Sydney audiences love it all!

Everything – opera, dance, ballet, music, musical theatre, drama, film circus – comes to Riverside … including the Sydney Comedy Festival!

In April and May star acts from the Festival including the Sydney Comedy Festival Gala, are appearing at Riverside.

It kicked off last night with Brown Women Comedy starring Indian comedians Daizy Maan, Kru Harale, Niv Prakasam and Ramya Ramapriya, four of the funniest women – brown or otherwise – that you are likely to hear! Their routines cover everything from calling out sexism and racism, to marriage (arranged and otherwise), to coping with pregnancy and babies, to digs at generational differences and cultural expectations.

All four are articulate, erudite and have the meticulous timing needed for good stand-up down to a tricky “T”. Their routines are carefully written, and carefully judged to appeal to appeal across cultural, generational, colour and gender borders … and all senses of humour.

You have only a short time to see these brilliant women, so book quickly. And if perchance you miss out there is more of the Festival to come.

There is the Festival Gala featuring “the hottest acts of the Festival”

There’s Gladys – A Musical about Gladys Berejiklian – but that appears to be sold out! But it might be worth a try for cancellations.

And in May there’s …

Malaysian Comedy All Stars (8 -10 May), IKEA Wars (9 May), Swampalesque  (10 May) and Ivan Aristeguieta’s “All Bangers and No Mash” (10 May).

A feast of fun for everyone!
