The Bodyguard
Spotlight is the first Gold Coast community theatre to reopen and what a great production with which to greet their patrons.
The Halpins have gathered an incredible cast and crew together for a thoroughly entertaining piece of modern musical theatre.
The set is simple with three revolves and uses projected scenery to enter the life of ‘Super Diva’ Rachel Marron, beautifully played by Hannah Rigby, with Jack Harbour in the title role. The talented cast includes Kyla Price, Joe Bourke, David Valks, Jordan Schiele (as the obsessed fan) and Cameron Camenzind and Lewis Green alternating as Rachel’s son Fletcher.
Due to the Covid restrictions, the auditorium has been adapted to cater for the reduction in audience size and Spotlight have had to add a number of performances to meet the demand for tickets.
Under the choreography of Jackson Kook and Jessica Ng, the dancers make a vital contribution to the pace of the production, while the fabulous 10 piece orchestra under the baton of Shari Willner (located in the adjacent Basement Theatre) give the show the pizazz to accompany the onstage performances.
With a production of this nature, glamorous costumes play an essential role and international choreographer and costume designer Michael Boyd (who just happens to be related to the directors and is spending lockdown in Australia) has supplied some magnificent costumes and head dresses.
Having to continuing rehearsing via zoom after the initial season was postponed, everyone connected with the production is to be congratulated on a fantastic way to reopen live theatre!
