The Best Kept Secret
This cabaret inspired blend of conventional theatre and burlesque sees five women unravelling life, love, and sisterhood through conversation and dance. Presented by Cherry Soda Co., it aims to show that strength and sensuality and co-exist beautifully.
Featuring a likeable cast who work together with good chemistry, the show is nicely lit by director Katharina Brieden with sound designed by Hayley Smith (who is also stage manager). Costumes, by the cast and Jayde Kerr make great use of colour.
The cast are committed, and while some acting feels a little new and uncertain, all are working hard. Great sisterly feeling from Zoe Walters, Jessie Nalder, Mary Del Casale (a standout), Britt Elise Koens and Mary Sullivan. Brieden’s script covers some heavy issues and these ladies attack with gusto.
While there was better burlesque (as a whole) at FringeWorld, this was unique in its narrative form, and there were some lovely moments.
A feminist celebration of life.
