All The Times I Could Have

All The Times I Could Have
By Anja Starkiss and Jamie Whirledge. FringeWorld. The Almost Collective and State of Play. Directed by Lucy Nunn. The Middar Room, State Theatre Centre of WA. Jan 17-19, 2025

Presented by The Almost Collective and State of Play, All The Times I Could Have, is a beautifully crafted one act play that is superbly produced and directed and intelligently and skilfully acted.

Simply set on the low Middar Room stage, this show features an all-female production team, most, if not all, recent graduates of WAAPA’s Performance Making Course. With organic sound design by Harper Nguyen, the lighting design, complex but never intrusive, is one of the best I have seen at a FringeWorld show - an excellent piece of work from actor/writer Anja Starkiss.

To say this show is light on plot sounds like a negative, but the simple plot of this show supports a great deal of character exploration, nuance and multiple meaning. The writing is poetic and clever and provides an excellent scaffold for two outstanding acting performances. Fabulous work from Anja Starkiss and Jamie Whirledge, whose chemistry and teamwork is excellent.

It’s a shame that this lovely play did not have a longer run, as I would have loved to recommend it to more people. A production team to watch in the future.
