99 Dalmatians, the pantomime
Based loosely on the film, this panto version follows the adventures of 99 Dalmatians and the attempt to abduct them for their fur.
Playing the Dalmatians are a talented group of children who also make an excellent chorus in a number of wonderful supporting songs.
Outstanding is Dwane McColm as Nanny S. Tate, the obligatory panto drag queen. Dwayne dominates the stage and delivers a montage of side-splitting one-liners.
Equally outstanding is Andrew Brackman as Lou Sefa, the panto villain. Brackman’s solo performance in the second act as he mimes to various hit songs is worth the price of entry alone. Simply brilliant.
The supporting cast of Billy Bogues (Oliver), Michelle Andrews (Grace), Katerina Kasunic (Cavana, a dog), Edward Hamilton (Mack, a dog) and Hannah Kunst (another dog) do a splendid job in moving the action along.
Director Cath Willacy opted for a bare stage that was highly appropriate for the rapid and smooth scene changes. The excellent lighting also deserves a special mention as it complemented the production.
All in all, a great show with plenty of songs, jokes and plotting to thrill a panto audience.
