Lloyd Webber Tour (and Trivia)

The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber begins its national tour in Melbourne on March 19.

Stuart Maunder directs the production, featuring Blake Bowden, Alinta Chidzey, Andrew Conaghan, Michael Cormick, Trisha Crowe, Delia Hannah, Kirsten Hobbs and Shaun Rennie, with musical supervision by Guy Noble.

Doing it for the Penguins Dominates Short+Sweet 2011

Sydney based writer-director David Bulmer’s green-tinged political satire Doing it for the Penguins has scooped the pool at the Gala Final at NIDA’s Parade Theatre on Saturday night (March 13), winning all of the major awards of ten-minute theatre festival Short+Sweet Sydney 2011.

My Favorite Year Second Neglected Musical for 2011

Sydney-based Neglected Musicals has announced their next musical for 2011, My Favorite Year, directed by Stuart Maunder, on Monday, 11 April at Darlinghurst Theatre with a performance at 2pm and 8pm.

Matilda Awards - 2010 Winners

Gallipoli Musical to Premiere in April

New Musicals Australia - Casting of Workshops Announced

New Musicals Australia has announced its casting for the inaugural workshop season, rehearsals for which started on Saturday.

“New Musicals Australia today announced the cast for the inaugural season of workshops. We are so excited to add to our very talented teams of people and move one step closer to seeing the development of the new and promising selected works” said Director of New Musicals Australia, Kris Stewart.

New Qld Music Theatre Course Led by Top London Teacher

Paul Sabey trained many of the current crop of West End stars. Now he’s moved to Brisbane in a newly created position, as Senior Lecturer in Music Theatre at the Queensland Conservatorium.

Peter Pinne spoke to him on the eve of his first year.

Q. This is a new strand of the Bachelor of Music program isn’t it?

A. Yes, the emphasis in previous years had been on Opera, but the Conservatorium thought it was time to introduce a specific Music Theatre strand.

Popular American cabaret and musical theatre singer / songwriter John Bucchino  is visiting Australia during March to accompany the Australian premiere of his musical revue, It’s Only Life, at Melbourne’s Chapel Off Chapel from March 10, and for a series of concerts beginning in Brisbane on March 2.
