Anthony Warlow and Gina Riley in Sweeney Todd

The pre-eminent leading man of Australian musical theatre, Anthony Warlow, will be joined by one of Australia’s best-known stage and screen performers, Gina Riley, when the pair join forces in this spectacular re-imagined concert version of the musical thriller Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Early Tease for 2019 Adelaide Cabaret Festival

Six early release shows and some new spaces have been announced for the 2019 Adelaide Cabaret Festival.

In an Australian exclusive and premiere, global cabaret legend Ute Lemper will perform Rendezvous with Marlene for one night only at Thebarton Theatre. The German chanteuse and festival headliner re-lives a three-hour telephone exchange she had with Marlene Dietrich in 1988.

Saturday Night Fever Cast Announced

Producer John Frost has announced the leading performers and the rest of the cast of the musical Saturday Night Fever, which will premiere in Sydney at the Sydney Lyric Theatre from 27 March 2019.

Caroline O’Connor Up Close

Music theatre star Caroline O’Connor is relishing her new role in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice at Sydney’s Darlinghurst Theatre. She told David Spicer why she loves the play so much and how she’ll enjoy performing in the intimate space of the Eternity Playhouse.

Caroline:  I saw the play in the West End. It was Jane Horrocks who originated the role.  It was thrilling. I had a wonderful seat in the stalls. I enjoyed all of the emotions and wonderful impersonations that Jane Horrocks did.

2018 Sydney Theatre Awards

The Sydney Theatre Company, the Hayes Theatre and Redline Productions were the big winners at the 2018 Sydney Theatre Awards. The Sydney Theatre Company picked ten awards, whilst a production of Cry Baby at the Hayes and Metamorphoses at the old Fitz  picked up four awards each.

Marcia Hines Joins Saturday Night Fever Cast

Producer John Frost has announced that legendary performer Marcia Hines will be joining the cast of the musical Saturday Night Fever, which will premiere in Sydney at the Sydney Lyric Theatre from 29 March 2019.

Come From Away

On September 11, 2001, the terrorist attack on New York and Washington forced 38 planes and 6,579 passengers to land in Gander, Newfoundland, almost doubling the population of the remote Canadian town. Their experience inspired the Tony Award winning musical Come From Away. David Spicer spoke to the producers of the musical during auditions, ahead of the Melbourne opening.

When I met the Sue Frost and Randy Adams in a hotel lobby, the producers were in a jolly mood. Every time they discussed how unlikely the success of this project was, they giggled.
