MTC Season 2017

Melbourne Theatre Company Artistic Director Brett Sheehy AO today (Aug 28, 2016) revealed MTC’s 2017 Season – a collection of works from around the world that celebrate the art of great, live storytelling. 

‘Season 2017 is one of our most exciting yet,’ Brett Sheehy said. ‘The year ahead draws together an enviable assortment of artists to present stories from France, Britain, Ireland, America, India, and, of course, Australia for a season that will bring laughter, empathy, debate and intrigue to all our lives.’

With Around The World in Eighty Days ready to burst onto our stages, Coral Drouyn talks to leading man Ian Stenlake.

Groundhog Musical A Big Hit in London

The Red and Black of Justin Stephens

Back in 2013, a production of The Woman in Black at a small outer suburbs community theatre started everybody talking and picked up every award going. The fact that the play had been running for over 20 years in London may have helped a little, but it was the Gothic Steam Punk vision of director Justin Stephens that caused the buzz.

The Color Purple – Full Cast Announced

From Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning bestselling novel and Stephen Spielberg's Oscar-nominated film comes the Australasian premiere of this Tony Award winning stage musical at Chapel off Chapel, Thursday 13 October until Sunday 6 November 2016.

Spanning four decades and three continents, The Color Purple chronicles the life of Celie, a battered and downtrodden African-American woman.

Ladies in Black Tour Cast Announced

Queensland Theatre Company has announced that the new Australian musical Ladies in Black will tour nationally in early 2017, opening in Sydney on January 3 for its premiere season in the city in which the story is based. The show will then return for an encore season to Brisbane from January 28, before another encore season in Melbourne from February 25, and to Canberra from March 27.

Matthew Bourne’s Lord of the Flies for Melbourne

Sir Matthew Bourne's production of Lord of the Flies, at Arts Centre Melbourne in April 2017, will be an Australian premiere and is exclusive to Melbourne. The performance is an adaptation of William Golding’s classic novel, transformed into a chilling, beautiful and hugely entertaining new production by Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures & Re:Bourne.
