West Side Story Cast Announced

Opera Australia, GWB Entertainment and BB Group have announced the principal cast for the upcoming Australian production of West Side Story.

The cast will feature some Todd Jacobsson (Book Of Mormon) as Tony, Sophie Salvesani as Maria, Chloe Zuel as Anita, Noah Mullins as Riff, and Lyndon Watts as Bernardo.

Muriel’s Wedding - Muriel and Rhonda Announced

Carmen Pavlovic, Global Creatures CEO has announced the actors playing the roles of Muriel and Rhonda in the upcoming Melbourne and Sydney seasons of Muriel’s Wedding The Musical.

2018 Rob Guest Endowment Finalists

The Rob Guest Endowment has announced the 2018 Rob Guest Endowment Finalists. Competing against over 200 applicants, six outstanding artists were chosen by an expert panel of judges, which included Dave Skelton, Kellie Dickerson and Chris Parker.

Razorhurst Premieres at Hayes Theatre In 2019

As part of its 2019 season, Hayes Theatre Co will present the Australian Premiere of the new musical, RAZORHURST. Set in Sydney’s Darlinghurst, this new musical, with book and lyrics by Kate Mulley and music by Andy Peterson, is being performed at Hayes Theatre Co from 14 June 2019.

American Psycho Musical to Premiere at Hayes

Producers BB-Arts Entertainment and Two Doors Productions join forces with Hayes Theatre Co to present the Australian premiere of AMERICAN PSYCHO - THE MUSICAL. Based on the novel American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis, which also inspired the 2000 film starring Christian Bale, the musical will have its Australian Premiere at the Hayes Theatre Co from 10 May 2019.

CAROLINE OR CHANGE PREMIERES AT HAYES

The Australian Premiere of the Olivier Award-winning musical CAROLINE OR CHANGE starring Zahra Newman in August 2019. 2018 Helpmann Award winner Mitchell Butel returns to Hayes Theatre Co to direct this uplifting and profound musical by Tony Kushner (Angels In America) and Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home, Violet).

State Opera of South Australia 2019 Season

The State Opera of South Australia’s 2019 season is the first program for the company by recently appointed Artistic Director Stuart Maunder AM, headlined by a summer outdoor spectacular, Carmen in the Square, on March 23.

This one night only event signals a year full of firsts, a new series shining the spotlight on Australia’s ‘lost’ operas and a rejuvenated education program to take opera out of the theatre and into the community.

State Opera Executive Director Yarmila Alfonzetti said the 2019 season truly belongs to the people.

St Kilda Writers Centre Launches

A new centre for creative writers will launch in St Kilda on Sunday 30 September. Coinciding with the inaugural St Kilda Writers Week (30 Sept – 7 October), the St Kilda Writers Centre is artistically directed by Stage Whispers reviewer, Geoffrey Williams. The home of the St Kilda Writers Centre will be The Laneway Artspace, 148A Barkly Street, St Kilda.

Mitchell Butel in Bernstein and Candide

As part of the international celebrations for the 100th anniversary of Leonard Bernstein’s birth, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs will present a concert version of Bernstein’s Candide at Sydney Opera House on September 29 and 30, 2018.

Although the original 1956 Broadway season of Candide met with mixed reviews, the Colombia Records recording of the original cast album thrived and Bernstein's score gained a sort of cult status.

State Theatre Company SA Season 2019

An all-female version of an Australian classic, the return of a hit comedy and a Cabaret Festival production starring one of Australia’s brightest musical theatre personalities all featutre in State Theatre Company’s 2019 season.

The eight-play program - announced by outgoing Artistic Director Geordie Brookman at the Dunstan Playhouse on Monday, 10 September combines comedies, sweeping epics and reimagined Australian classics led by old and new faces both on and off the stage.
