Waltzing Our Matilda Across Queensland

Queensland Tour – 31 July to 13 August, 2011.

Following its success in Brisbane and on tour throughout Queensland in 2009, Opera Queensland remounts Waltzing Our Matilda by Jason and Leisa Barry-Smith and Narelle French for its 2011 Season, with one Brisbane show followed by a regional tour including performances in Redlands, Roma, Chinchilla, Stanthorpe, Warwick, Gympie, Ipswich, the Gold Coast and Logan.

Melbourne Cabaret Festival 2011

100 performers – 78 performances – six nights

Melbourne’s second annual Cabaret Festival next week promises - 100 performers – 78 performances– six nights - all within South Melbourne’s historic Emerald Hill arts and cultural precinct,.

From Tuesday 19 to Sunday 24 July, a feast of local, interstate and international cabaret artists will appear across seven venues, with new cabaret shows starting every 15 minutes from 6.15pm till late.

Melinda Schneider Brings Doris Day to Melbourne.

Melinda Schneider steps into the shoes of a great musical and cinema icon, American chanteuse Doris Day in Doris – So Much More Than the Girl Next Door, playing its Melbourne premiere season at Her Majesty’s Theatre for a 2-week season from Tuesday 23rd August 2011.  

Melinda traces her love at first sight of Doris Day in the 1953 movie musical Calamity Jane.

Weimar Cabaret for Sydney

Emily Eyefinger Adapted for Stage

Monkey Baa Theatre for Young People have taken another much-loved Australian children’s story and turned it into a new stage production, opening at the Seymour Centre as school holiday entertainment from July 9 to 16 before touring. This time it’s the classic Australian series, Emily Eyefinger, by the multi-award winning children’s author, Duncan Ball, that has been adapted for the stage.

Sharon Millerchip: Love Never Dies and So Much More

Triple Threat Musical Theatre performer Sharon Millerchip’s career came almost full circle this year. She is playing the role of Meg Giry in the new Australian production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies, a role she first played in the original Australian production of The Phantom of the Opera.

Sharon spoke to Neil Litchfield prior to rehearsals for the show, which opened at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre in May.

In its 5th year of juggling innovation and experimentation, the Melbourne Juggling Convention (MJC) is set to involve hundreds of people from all over Australia and the world in this event focusing on the art of juggling and object manipulation!

Avenue Q in the Making for Adelaide

When Adelaide theatre entrepenuer Matt Byrne went looking for puppets for his July production of Avenue Q, he decided to go local.

He found “an amazing puppet lady” called Sue Dosset who jumped at the challenge to create the cast.

"When Information Night came I thanked a packed crowd of interested actors for coming, and said I would like to introduce them to the cast. The lights went out and when they came up the puppets were sitting there on stage. The reaction was electric," he said.

Twisted Broadway

On the 18th of July 2011, The Benge Group will present ‘Twisted Broadway,’ a charity event to raise money for Oz Showbiz Cares / Equity Fights Aids.
