As part of the international celebrations for the 100th anniversary of Leonard Bernstein’s birth, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs will present a concert version of Bernstein’s Candide at Sydney Opera House on September 29 and 30, 2018.

Although the original 1956 Broadway season of Candide met with mixed reviews, the Colombia Records recording of the original cast album thrived and Bernstein's score gained a sort of cult status.

Riverside’s National Theatre of Parramatta (NTofP) has announced its Season 2019, comprising three Australian premieres and a newly commissioned work. In its fourth year, the NTofP program focuses on identity and celebrates diversity.

In 2019, NTofP presents the productions Grounded by George Brandt, Girl in the Machine by Stef Smith, Comedy of Errors adapted by Hilary Bell and White Pearl by Anchuli Felicia King, a co-production with Sydney Theatre Company. 

One of the great legacies of Leonard Bernstein’s career, Candide premiered on Broadway, at the Martin Beck Theater in New York on December 1, 1956. Although the original season met with mixed reviews, the Colombia Records recording of the original cast album thrived and Bernstein's score gained a sort of cult status.

Over the coming decades Bernstein collaborated on five versions of his operetta, each time adding to the show’s song list, and further enhancing the work’s increasingly legendary reputation.

Melbourne Theatre Company Artistic Director Brett Sheehy AO has revealed MTC’s 2019 Season.
