Carnegie 18: Four new music theatre projects ‘in the raw’

Four new Australian music theatre projects in development will have their first airing at the Arts Centre, Melbourne in January.

With a mission to uncover and support bold, innovative thinking in contemporary music theatre across Australia, the Arts Centre in conjunction with the Australia Council called for new works in early 2010. Four of the most compelling were chosen and will be presented ‘in the raw’ during a showcase season from January 19 – 25 in the Fairfax Studio, the Arts Centre.

Sydney Season for Williamson Sequel Announced.

In his 40th year as a playwright, David Williamson presents Australian theatre audiences with an anniversary gift; a sequel to his landmark hit play, Don’s Party.

Glen Street Theatre 2011 Season Announced

Glen Street Theatre’s 2011 Main Stage season has been unveiled by new Director Margot Woodward. Woodward says “We are thrilled to announce our 2011 season. There’s a wonderful mix of comedy, drama, song and dance and even radio plays! With such a varied and eclectic programme, we trust that there is something for everyone at Glen Street next year.”

Riverside Theatres, Parramatta Announces Full 2011 Season.

Riverside Theatres at Parramatta has announced its full 2011 Season Program, which includes Riverside Productions and Seymour Centre’s co production of Transparency by Suzie Miller.

New Musicals Australia 2011 Workshop Selections Announced

New Musicals Australia has announced its inaugural workshop season. From almost fifty applications, seven works have been selected for workshop in Sydney next year.

“New Musicals Australia is very excited about the announcement of the Workshops selections. We have a fantastic range of material from some very talented teams of people,” said Director of New Musicals Australia, Kris Stewart.

Sydney’s Wharf Revue is traveling south to Melbourne for the first time. But as David Spicer reports, just before opening night the comedy revue was facing its very own political crisis.

Rock of Ages Casting Announced.

An Australia wide search has discovered two brilliant young performers, Justin Burford and Amy Lehpamer, to star in Rock of Ages.

Rock of Ages, the five-time Tony Award® nominated Broadway musical, which continues to play on Broadway, across the United Sates and Toronto, will open at the Comedy Theatre, Melbourne, on Saturday 9 April 2011.

Sydney Festival 2011 - January 8 –30

Festival Director Lindy Hume today announced details of Sydney Festival 2011, a program of theatre, dance, music and film with artists from all over the world set to run from January 8–30. The 2011 Festival, Hume’s second as Festival Director, brings narrative to the forefront with storytelling on every scale.  

Malthouse Season 1, 2011

Malthouse Theatre’s new Artistic Director Marion Potts has announced her first season of ten productions, including three World Premieres, three Melbourne Premieres, four dance productions, three new adaptations of classics, two Malthouse commissions, and two return seasons by popular demand.

The season begins in February with Marion Potts’s direction of her own “epic, almost operatic adaptation” of John Ford’s ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore, collaborating with composer Andrée Greenwell.
