Mark Kilmurry Appointed Co-Artistic Director of Sydney’s Ensemble Theatre

In celebrating the anniversary of her 25th year at the helm of Ensemble Theatre, Sandra Bates today (January 5) announced  the appointment of Mark Kilmurry as her Co-Artistic Director.

Rehearsals for the new musical production Doctor Zhivago are well underway in Sydney. Director Des McAnuff (Jersey Boys) arrived in Australia from Canada just before Christmas to commence rehearsals on December 27, while others members of the production team subsequently flew in, including composer Lucy Simon, choreographer Kelly Devine, music supervisor Eric Stern, orchestrator Danny Troob, US co-producer Anita Waxman and lyricists Michael Korie and Amy Powers and book writer Michael Weller.

Spider-Man Injury Toll Rises.

The injury toll continues to rise on Broadway's troubled Spider-Man musical.

The role of the villainess Arachne in Broadway’s still-previewing Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark has claimed a second injury victim. The New York Times reports that T.V. Carpio, who took over the role when Natalie Mendoza was injured, will be out of the show for two weeks after an injury during an onstage battle scene during the preview on March 16.

She became the fifth performer to suffer an injury during rehearsals and previews for the show.

2010 CONDA Awards

The 32nd Annual CONDA Awards (City of Newcastle Drama Awards), held at Newcastle’s Civic Theatre last night (Friday, December 17, 2010), saw the evening’s awards in 23 categories spread across sixteen productions and twelve companies.

The CONDAs recognise achievement in both professional and non-professional theatre within this lively theatrical community, where a total of 70 productions were eligible for consideration in a twelve-month period to October 31, with 44 productions receiving nominations in one of more category.

WAAPA graduate Gillian Cosgroff was theThe Showcase Award winner, and becomes the standby performer, in the event that Toby Francis is unable to fulfill his obligations to the Festival sponsors.

The Victorian Drama League 14th Annual Awards Presentation Evening 2010

Last night’s Victorian Drama League 14th Annual Awards Presentation Evening was held at Merrimu Receptions, Dandenong Rd, Murrumbeena. Throughout the year three adjudicators attended twenty-four productions around the state and bestowed awards by category as well as a number of individual adjudicator’s awards.
