“Exquisite beauty from the heavens. Profound wisdom from dynasties past. Discover authentic Chinese culture,” is the invitation from Shen Yun Performing Arts, the classical Chinese dance and music company, returning to Australia in 2024 with an all-new production.

Shen Yun, a New York-based company, was founded in 2006 by a group of Chinese artists, with a dream of creating a renaissance for their ancient heritage.

Returning this year with an all-new set of programs, Shen Yun’s eight equally sized companies—each with a live orchestra—are set to tour around the world. Encompassing over 200 cities across more than 20 countries and spanning five continents, this season marks the company’s most extensive tour yet.

In the upcoming months, Shen Yun will be visiting 43 states in the United States and four provinces in Canada. In addition to the company’s return to Brazil, it’s scheduled to make its debut appearance in the Caribbeans this coming January in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The scale of Shen Yun’s 2024 European tour is also poised to surpass previous years. There will be shows available spanning over 50 cities in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and other European countries. Audiences can also anticipate Shen Yun's performances in 23 cities across Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.

In the 17 years since the company’s establishment, audiences worldwide have raved about the beauty of Shen Yun, stating that it is both a feast for the eyes and an inspiration for the soul—a truly refreshing artistic experience that awakens long-forgotten memories. “With breathtaking dances, gorgeous costumes, live orchestra, and dynamic backdrops, this is a show brimming with themes of courage, hope, and triumph of good over evil,” Shen Yun describe themselves as “the world’s only company depicting Chinese culture as it had been before communist rule.” 

Each year, the company debuts a new lineup of original music and choreography, ranging from classical Chinese dance to traditional ethnic and folk dance styles to theatrical depictions of beloved stories.

At the performance’s core is classical Chinese dance. This is “the same art form that had once been performed in front of emperors in palace halls.”

Shen Yun features hundreds of handmade costumes—showcasing apparel from China’s 5,000 years of history. Their colours blend seamlessly with the animated backdrops, instantly transporting the audience to another world. The animation also contains a few surprises, but those are best left for the performance.
