Our Favourite Opening Ceremony Highlight
This was our favourite moment from the opening ceremony, when the Queen's stunt double Gary Connery jumped out of the helicopter prompted by the cool hand of James Bond.
Here they are, just about to take the plunge.
Imagine the fun in setting up the whole event. They must have had a big whiteboard. OK, we'll get the Queen to jump out of plane, Rowan Atkinson can play Chariots of Fire, David Beckham can come in a on speed boat!
Let's have Mary Poppins, William Shakespeare...and oh yes we must do a tribute to the National Health Service.
Anyhow we asked our Facebook fans to nominate their highlights. Do you agree with them?

“I loved that the majority of the start of the opening ceremony was done with physical set pieces. The grass, the fields, the hill with the tree on top - so good to see physical elements, not just digital aspects.“
“The symbol of global harmony that was the lighting of the torch. 240 countries joined as one even if it is just for a short while. We can forget the all the horrors that are in this world and just look at the beautiful flower of flames it makes “

“The best part was when all the rings joined together to join as the Olympic rings. I myself loved the birds flying in as the performers rode their bikes in. Those costumes were very well put together. That was a great part, however the rings with the pyrotechnics and the symbolism of the countries joining together as the burning petals raised to form the Olympic Cauldron was a very nice touch. Yay, for the Olympics.“
“The Queen & Bondy jumping out of the helicopter . . . “
“Kenneth Branagh's top hat”
“I liked the look on my 7 year old’s face when he saw David Beckham cruising across the water- 007 style! But really I liked my 7 year old who sat in awe watching this great event for the first time, the magic of the opening ceremony was right here at my place! “
“As I watched live coverage in Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam, my friends in Namibia, Los Angeles, London, Brisbane and Robina all shared the joy with me. We all loved Chariots of Bean. “
“Can't beat helicopter drop of 7 billion bits of paper representing each and every one if us! Drama, theatrical use of emotion and engagement with audience. Fabulous “
“My favourite bit of the opening was...........a commercial. "I Come From The Land Down Under". What a fab patriotic song it is. It made me wish I had got up early to watch it uninterrupted though.”
