Belvoir has unveiled the ten mainstage productions that will make up its 2023 Season - from a Sondheim musical to a best-selling book adaptation, climate issues to exuberant comedy, and more - while shining the light on some incredible Australian artistic talents.

Bell Shakespeare Season 2023

Bell Shakespeare has announced its 2023 season, with three new productions touring throughout the country. To mark 2023 as the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s First Folio, the company will stage new contemporary retellings of plays from the Folio, Macbeth and Twelfth Nightthe latter featuring all new music by Sarah Blasko.

Teacher Saves Phantom and Wins Bride

Science teacher and amateur theatre ‘champion’ Lachlan O’Brien saved a performance of The Phantom of the Opera on Sydney Harbour by taking on a lead role during a medical emergency, then won the right to pop the big question on stage. David Spicer reports.

Madagascar Adds Melbourne and Perth Seasons

The international touring production of Madagascar - The Musical heads into Melbourne and Perth after it opens in Sydney in December.

Adapted from the DreamWorks animated motion movie, this family musical has performed to sold-out audiences across the UK and New Zealand. The high-octane rock musical We Will Rock You, featuring Queen’s greatest hits, including “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Another One Bites the Dust”, “I Want to Break Free”, “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, “Somebody To Love”, “Under Pressure”, “A Kind of Magic” and more is set to tour Australia in an all-new arena production across the country in 2023.

Beauty and the Beast for Capitol in June 2023

Disney Theatrical Productions Australia will present a new production of Beauty and the Beast, which will have its premiere Australian season in Sydney from June 2023 at the Capitol Theatre.
