2010 CONDA Awards

The 32nd Annual CONDA Awards (City of Newcastle Drama Awards), held at Newcastle’s Civic Theatre last night (Friday, December 17, 2010), saw the evening’s awards in 23 categories spread across sixteen productions and twelve companies.

The CONDAs recognise achievement in both professional and non-professional theatre within this lively theatrical community, where a total of 70 productions were eligible for consideration in a twelve-month period to October 31, with 44 productions receiving nominations in one of more category.

Toby Francis won Sydney's 8th Annual Cabaret Showcase in the Grand Final held at The Basement on Monday 20th December. Toby is a graduating AIM Music Theatre student.

WAAPA graduate Gillian Cosgroff was theThe Showcase Award winner, and becomes the standby performer, in the event that Toby Francis is unable to fulfill his obligations to the Festival sponsors.

The Victorian Drama League 14th Annual Awards Presentation Evening 2010

Last night’s Victorian Drama League 14th Annual Awards Presentation Evening was held at Merrimu Receptions, Dandenong Rd, Murrumbeena. Throughout the year three adjudicators attended twenty-four productions around the state and bestowed awards by category as well as a number of individual adjudicator’s awards.

Sydney Season for Todd’s Boy From Oz Return

He was the original Boy From Oz. Now Todd McKenney has picked up the maracas once again. A two-week Sydney season has now been announced at the Capitol Theatre from March 2, following the Production Company’s sell-out Melbourne season in August and a return Melbourne Summer season from January 5 to 16.

Ten Years of Red Stitch

Melbourne based independent theatre company Red Stitch Actors Theatrecelebrates its 10th anniversary season in 2011. It is unique in its ensemble structure, managed and staffed largely by the actors, with a core team of dedicated technical and design crew.

The ensemble came together in late 2001, principally to create work for actors who weren’t getting opportunities elsewhere, and to produce exciting contemporary scripts that weren’t being performed on Australian stages.
