The Marriage of Figaro
Benedict Andrews' new production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro for Opera Australia, features a set created by Ralph Myers, costumes by Alice Babidge and lighting by Nick Schlieper.
The Almaviva household is made up of an outstanding cast of Australian and international singers. After an exciting year of appearances with the Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic and Los Angeles Philharmonic, Joshua Bloom returns to Australia to play Figaro. His bride, Susanna, is Australian soprano Taryn Fiebig. Opera Australia favourite Michael Lewis is the Count Almaviva, and spectacular Russian soprano Elvira Fatykhova, who wowed audiences as Violetta in La Traviata this year, is the Countess. Jacqueline Dark is the scheming duenna Marcellina, and Dominica Matthews plays the ‘trouser’ role of Cherubino. Simon Hewett conducts the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra.
Opera Theatre, Sydney Opera house from February 6 to March 24, 2012.
