Opera Q: Season 2016

Opera Queensland has announced a 2016 season packed with new Australian work, international collaborations, and more opportunities for audiences to get up close to the action.

The company is set to post its first surplus in eight years, thanks to the strong audience response to La traviata, the success of its $25 ticket initiative, which saw thousands of people see an OperaQ show for the first time1, the sell-out Cloud Song, where cocktails mixed with immersive opera in a nightclub, and record numbers signing up for workshops.

Fiddler on the Roof: More Casting Announced

An impressive line-up of Australian talent has been assembled for the new production of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, opening at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre from December 29, 2015, followed by a Sydney season at the Capitol Theatre from March 24th 2016.

As previously announced Anthony Warlow returns from Broadway to play the role of Tevye. Anthony has spent the last three years treading the boards on Broadway playing Daddy Warbucks in Annie and most recently replacing Kelsey Grammar as Captain Hook in Finding Neverland.

Sold Out Rent Returns to The Hayes in 2016

Highway Run Productions’ RENT, currently playing at Hayes Theatre Co, sold out before it had opened and desperate fans have been calling the box office daily and lurking around the foyer before each performance in the hopes that a ticket might materialise. Producers Toby Francis and Lauren Peters have today announced that those who missed out this season (and those that are itching to see it again) will get another chance in 2016 when the production returns to Hayes Theatre Co for a strictly limited three-week season in March/April.

Lord Of The Dance Hangs Up His Boots.

At the age of 57, international Irish dance superstar Michael Flatley has retired from active duty. This comes more than 20 years after his unique form of large-scale dance extravaganzas started touring the world. He told David Spicer that he is nursing a long list of injuries from his time on the stage.  This is why he is leaving it to dancers mostly aged in their twenties to star in his new production Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games. Also helping out arevirtual dancers and robots.

Little Shop of Horrors Tour - Sydney Return Season Announced

Beware earthlings – due to overwhelming demand the cult musical comedy Little Shop of Horrorswill return to Sydney for a reprise season in July. Starring Brent Hill andEsther Hannaford, the return season will be staged at the Roslyn Packer Theatre in Sydney from 20 to 31 July, 2016.

The production is currently playing at Hayes Theatre Co where it premiered last week.

Disney's Aladdin to Premiere in Sydney

Disney’s Aladdin, the musical comedy based on the classic Academy Award®-winning animated film, will open in Sydney at the Capitol Theatre in August 2016.

Tickets will go on sale in March 2016.

Guest Artists for 2015 Rob Guest Endowment Concert

The 2015 Rob Guest Endowment Grand Final Concert will be held on Monday 9 November at the Sydney Lyric Theatre. Hosted by Lucy Durack and David Campbell, guest artists performing at the concert will include musical theatre performers Rob Mills and Jemma Rix, Dirty Dancing star Mark Vincent, 2014 Rob Guest Endowment winner Joshua Robson, and cast members from Matilda and Cats.
