Pippa Grandison: Stepping in as Mrs Banks

Pippa Grandison took over the role of Mrs. Banks in Mary Poppins from Marina Prior in October. Neil Litchfield caught up with Pippa in her dressing room at the Capitol Theatre, Sydney, before a recent performance.

Pippa Grandison is no stranger to taking over roles at the Capitol. She took over the role of Elphaba in Wicked from Amanda Harrison, and shared it for six months last year.

How have you found stepping into the role of Mrs Banks in Mary Poppins?

Moonshadow: Melbourne World Premiere for Cat Stevens / Yusuf Musical

Moonshadow announces last four weeks.

Moonshadow, which opened in May will end its Melbourne World Premiere season early on Sunday 5 August, with no indication of any intention to tour other capitals. According to the producers, to prepare to tour the musical overseas.

Producer / composer Yusuf/Cat Stevens is now overseas and is looking forward to launching the musical in other countries including London’s West End.

Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards 2011

Theatre excellence in Wellington was celebrated in the 20th annual Chapman Tripp Theatre Award’s 2011 ceremony, which was held at the Opera House on Sunday 4th December.

I, George Nepia was the major winner on the night, taking two directing awards for newcomer Jason Te Kare, The Pro Actors and Gail Cowan Management Award for Actor of the Year for Jarrod Rawiri and The Chapman Tripp Award for Production of the Year.

2011 CONDA AWARDS

The 33rd Annual presentation of the City of Newcastle Drama Awards took place at The Civic Theatre on December 2, 2011.

Seventeen professional and non-professional productions staged in the 12 months to October 31 won awards, with 13 companies represented, across 24 categories.

Biggest winner of the night was Pantseat Productions’ Avenue Q, which won the best non-professional musical production CONDA, plus two other awards.

Pippin for Sydney in December

After six weeks in the wings nursing possibly the world’s worst ever sprained ankle, Justin Burford was itching to return to his role as Drew in the jukebox musical Rock of Ages, at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre, ahead of the season in Brisbane. Lucy Graham caught up with him in a Melbourne café.
