State Theatre Company of SA 2017 Season

State Theatre Company has announced its 2017 season at a launch held at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Adelaide on September 27, 2016.

2017 marks a new direction for the Company, with the formation of the State Theatre Company Ensemble, a group of actors and creatives taking residence at the Company to work on a number of productions in 2017 and 2018.

Musicals in Tandem at 45 Downstairs

Vic Theatre is set to produce two shows at Melbourne’s 45 Downstairs in November and December 2016, The Gathering and The Last Five Years.

This presentation will see two shows play in the same theatre at alternating times.

My Fair Dustman

Australian stage legend Reg Livermore knows classic musical My Fair Lady well, having played Professor Henry Higgins in the most recent Australian revival. Now for the new 60th Anniversary production, directed by Dame Julie Andrews, he steps several rungs down the British class ladder to play dustman Alfred Doolittle. Neil Litchfield reports.

One is a Professor of Linguistics; the other collects the garbage. It’s a delicious switch for Reg Livermore.

Secret River and Miriam Margolyes for Adelaide Festival

Adelaide Festival has announced two more shows from its 2017 program: Neil Armfield's The Secret River in the Anstey Hill Quarry, and Peter and the Wolf starring Miriam Margolyes

A Star Venue for Cabaret Stars

Despite the venue starting out as a tin shed and having been known by multiple names since the 1920’s, Star Theatres has been an enduring and well-loved host to Adelaide entertainment in all its forms, even as the theatre complex dealt with arts funding cuts, potential closure and other trials. Under the auspices of its indomitable Director, Adelaide entertainment guru Malcolm Harslett, the venue is soon to stage the 2016 season of its own successful Cabaret festival, Cabaret under the Star. Lesley Reed reports. 

Queensland Ballet 2017 Season

Corporate partners, subscribers and friends were given a sneak preview when Queensland Ballet’s Artistic Director Li Cunxin launched their 2017 season on September 19 in the QPAC Concert Hall. Two live excerpts – the white Pas de deux from Swan Lake with Laura Hildago and Victor Estevez, and the Widow’s glog dance from La Fille mal gardee gave tantalising glimpse of the riches the 2017 season will bring.

Malthouse Theatre Season 2017

The 2017 Malthouse Theatre program promises an anarchic and ribald season of five new Australian plays, eight world premieres and a cohort of rebellious international guests including:a new adaptation of The Elephant Man by Tom Wright,
 Little Emperors by provocative Chinese theatre maker
 Wang Chong, Wild Bore by three of the most notorious women on the international comedy circuit, Zoe Coombs Maar, Adrienne Truscott and Ursula Martinez, Heart Is
 A Wasteland by Indigenous theatre company Brown Cab Productions, Revolt. She Said.

Griffin Theatre Company Season 2017

Despite funding cuts, Artistic Director Lee Lewis has announced a strong line–up for of Australian plays for 2017.
