Rehearsals began on Monday March 19 for the World Premiere production of An Officer and A Gentleman The Musical, which opens at the Lyric Theatre, Sydney on May 18, 2012.

The absurd world of Eugene Ionesco is given a fresh view by Melbourne’s 5pound Theatre Director Jason Cavanagh.

Cavanagh is taking Ionesco's classic Rhinoceros (in a adaptation by Martin Crimp) beyond the confines of a theatre to stage it throughout The Owl and the Pussycat, transforming the larger gallery space into a humble little village where the audience will sit at tables and chairs in the middle of the set, before being bustled into the bar area for the dramatic conclusion.

State Theatre Company of South Australia Announces 2012 Season

A celebration of the centenary of Patrick White’s birth, a double bill of hard-hitting modern works and the play that will leave everyone ‘buzzing’ are amongst the offerings in State Theatre Company’s 2012 season, announced today (September 25) at the Company Open Day.

Australia’s own multi-talented Melinda Schneider steps into the shoes of a great musical icon, American chanteuse Doris Day in Doris – So Much More Than the Girl Next Door.

The Sydney premiere season will take place at the Lyric Theatre for 14 performances only from Thursday 3 November until Sunday 13 November 2011. This will be preceded by a Perth season at The Regal Theatre, Subiaco from Wednesday 12 October to Sunday 16 October 2011. A return Brisbane season follows at Twelfth Night Theatre from November 15.

Philip Quast will play the role of the suave and cynical Cabinet Secretary, Sir Humphrey Appleby, Mark Owen-Taylor will play the embattled Prime Minister Jim Hacker, and John Lloyd Fillingham is Jim’s hapless assistant, Bernard Woolley, Caroline Craig is the PM’s Special Policy Advisor and Tony Llewellyn-Jones is the BBC Director General in the stage production of Yes, Prime Minister.

New Mary and Mrs Banks for Sydney Mary Poppins

Helpmann Award winner Verity Hunt-Ballard will take a break from the title role of Mary Poppins, with English performer Scarlett Strallen to replace her for the balance of the Sydney season.

Hunt-Ballard will return for the Brisbane season of the show, alongside fellow Helpmann winner Matt Lee.
