Despite the venue starting out as a tin shed and having been known by multiple names since the 1920’s, Star Theatres has been an enduring and well-loved host to Adelaide entertainment in all its forms, even as the theatre complex dealt with arts funding cuts, potential closure and other trials. Under the auspices of its indomitable Director, Adelaide entertainment guru Malcolm Harslett, the venue is soon to stage the 2016 season of its own successful Cabaret festival, Cabaret under the Star. Lovers of independent theatre in Melbourne all knew and loved The Owl and The Pussycat Theatre, a strange little shop adorned with tiles depicting Edward Lear’s poem, with a flat upstairs and a bar under the stairs. Muriel’s Wedding The Musical will play 6 November to 30 December, 2017, at Sydney’s Roslyn Packer Theatre, as part of STC’s 2017 season.
Sydney Theatre Company has announced its 2017 season, with fifteen shows across four venues. A raft of new writing, including a musical version of one of Australia’s most iconic films, an Indigenous romantic comedy and an account of migrant life within Australia’s Thai community, sits alongside fresh explorations of landmark texts and recent international plays.
