Pippin for Sydney in December

Hit Broadway musical Pippin returns to the Sydney stage this December when young independent theatre company CrinkleCut Productions present the darkly comic musical parable at the Sidetrack Theatre.

We're here to tell you a remarkable tale. 

Don't believe your eyes. Don't trust your ears. The players are liars. These things did not happen.

After six weeks in the wings nursing possibly the world’s worst ever sprained ankle, Justin Burford was itching to return to his role as Drew in the jukebox musical Rock of Ages, at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre, ahead of the season in Brisbane. Lucy Graham caught up with him in a Melbourne café.

After the recent sell-out season of Stories from the Wayside a new production from the same team premieres at Darlinghurst Theatre from November 23, 2011 -  Sydney Stories, created by Dean Carey with the cast from Actors Centre Australia.

YOUNG AUSTRALIANS LAND LEADS IN HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON

After a casting process across 13 major cities around the world, RZO Dragon Productions, Global Creatures and DreamWorks Animation have announced the cast of the live entertainment event, How To Train Your Dragon Arena Spectacular.

Two young Australian performers, Rarmian Newton and Sarah McCreanor, have been cast in the lead roles of Hiccup and Astrid. Due to the intense physicality of these roles, two actors are required to share each of these roles.

War Horse to Premiere in Melbourne

Puppets have come a long way since The Muppets, and if today’s media launch (April 18, 2012) at Arts Centre Melbourne is any measure, War Horse will be the talk of the town when it takes the stage this summer. Lucy Graham was there to meet the star of the show.

At the Arts Centre Melbourne this morning the media were introduced to the star of War Horse, a true-to life puppet called Joey, and the three puppeteers that bring him to life.

Ghost the Musical, which was to haunt Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre from August 2013, has now been postponed following the show's lacklustre showings in London's West End and on Broadway.

The West End production is set to close on October 6, 2012 after just over 500 performances, while the Broadway production closed on August 16 after just 136 performances.

It’s the highest honour bestowed by the Live Entertainment Industry - The JC Williamson Award. This year three Leading Ladies shared the honour, Toni Lamond AM, Jill Perryman AM MBE and Nancye Hayes OAM (pictured above). As it happens all three received their training in the once mighty JC Williamson Company, which for a century was the producing company that dominated Australia and New Zealand.

Opera Australia Announces First Brisbane Season in 20 Years

The 2012 Brisbane season by Opera Australia has been announced, with tickets going on sale to the public from Monday 21 November, through QPAC. In May and June 2012 Australia’s national opera company will present The Magic Flute and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre for the first time. The casts include Queensland-based singers, Conal Coad, Andrew Collis and Milica Ilic as well as some of Opera Australia’s most renowned stars such as Taryn Fiebig, Lorina Gore and Jacqueline Dark.
