The Butterfly Club Spreads Its Cabaret Wings

The Butterfly Club is spreading its wings for a special cabaret season at Trades Hall from Tuesday 20 September until Saturday 8 October 2011.

Butterfly @ Trades willpresent some of the best local cabaret artists with new shows and many returning from sold out seasons across Australia.  More than 40 performers in 45 shows across the three weeks.

Simon Taylor loves psychology. His enthusiasm for the human mind turns into a comedy show about morality, happiness, language and love in his new show, 10 Things I Know About You.

Western life is full of material things and countless opportunities, but what makes us smile is hidden away in the back of our mind. 10 Things I Know About You reveals the simple truth about being happy in the modern world.

Australia’s reigning a cappella champions Suade is a five part male a cappella vocal group.  Sweet, close harmony meets new-school beatboxing, live looping, high energy showmanship and no-holds-barred comedy.  In their show Vocal Shenanigans, Suade will take the audience on a wide ride down of some of the best loved music.

One of Australia’s best-loved international comedians, Tim Ferguson returns to the stage to deliver an evening of stories from a life on the comedy warpath.

From touring the world as a Doug Anthony Allstar to his life as a network celebrity (Don’t Forget Your Toothbush, Unreal TV, WithTimFerguson) Tim speaks (and sings) about his adventures with wicked wit and admirable honesty.

Tim has battled Multiple Sclerosis for much of his adult life. Speaking about it publicly for the first time in 2010, he said, ‘It’s not for wimps’. In Carry a Big Stick Tim will deliver his trademark sharp insights on the human condition - and his own condition. On his never-ending battle with MS, he says ‘you can laugh, or you can cry. Laughing takes fewer tissues’.  Armed with a big walking stick, this master comedian is fierce, fearless and funny.

Catherine Deveny’s one-woman show God is Bullshit returns after her 2010 Melbourne International Comedy Festival sold out season. 

Strap yourself in for a death-defying ride through her spiritual journey from wannabe Catholic altar girl to atheist eye candy.

Tall Poppy Blues is wall-to-wall Chris Wallace songs, from country to gospel to jazz to ballads to show tunes to kids’ songs and even a tap number thrown in for good measure.  This is an original and unique marriage of musical theatre and cabaret. 

Audiences will know American born Wallace as an actor – in America, the holiday horror classic, New Year’s Evil, the soap opera, All My Children, The Incredible Hulk amongst others; in Australia, Stingers, Wilfred, Blue Heelers, the upcoming ABC series The Slap, Who Wants to be a Terrorist.  Wallace also Nothing to Wear, a musical that had two seasons at the Fairfax Studio Theatre, Victorian Arts Centre.

Dolly Diamond returns with her new one woman show, More Than A Woman.

This UK comedy cabaret diva combines singing and comic timing with a razor sharp wit. She now calls Australia home and is an audience favourite in Melbourne and across Australia.  More Than A Woman  features Dolly Diamond romping through a collection of well known songs with a cabaret twist to tell her own story and poke fun at a multitude of others. A life of guts, glitz and glamour.
