2022 Sydney Theatre Awards Nominations

Nominations have been announced for the 2022 Sydney Theatre Awards, which will be presented at an industry gala ceremony on Monday 23 January 2023 at 7pm at the York Theatre, Seymour Centre.

Musical theatre across Australia in 2023 promises a mix of blockbuster revivals as commercial theatre recovers from the last couple of years, interspersed with some recent big hits from Broadway and the West End, and a healthy number of new Australian works. A Tale of Two Christmas Carols

A hit when it was first published in 1843, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol shows no sign of slowing down. Major productions are on stage in Melbourne and Sydney during December 2022, starring David Wenham and John Bell as Scrooge. David Spicer speaks to the stars and creatives.

City of Angels for Hayes Theatre in 2023.

Joshua Robson Productions (Bonnie & Clyde, In the Heights) have announced their 2023 production of the smart and stylish film noir musical, City of Angels. Playing at Hayes Theatre Co from 23 June 2023, the Tony Award winner captures the gritty sights and sounds of Hollywood’s classic detective movies, set to a brilliant, jazzy Hollywood score.

The Mousetrap for Perth and Canberra

Producer John Frost for Crossroads Live Australia has announced that the 70th Anniversary production of Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap will play in Perth at His Majesty’s Theatre from 8 April 2023, and at the Canberra Theatre Centre from 11 May for strictly limited seasons.

Ticket presales in Canberra begin today (Dec 12) and in Perth tomorrow, with GP sale in both cities from Friday 16 December.

At The Crossroads: Dale Burridge

Coral Drouyn talks to musical theatre star Dale Burridge about his long overdue return to the stage in his new cabaret experience.

It was 1990 when Dale Burridge truly did his Supernova act in Australian Musical Theatre by wowing audiences as Raoul in the original Australian production of Phantom of the Opera. That is no mean feat when you consider he shared the stage with Anthony Warlow and Marina Prior. Dale’s voice was lighter then, a pristine tenor with mellifluous undertones, but it promised more than we could ever have hoped for.
