13 – A New Musicalis about the one thing we never stop doing - growing up.

In a middle school in Appleton, Indiana, 13 year olds leap from childhood into a whole new fantastic and frightening era: their teens. Like kids everywhere, they suddenly are trying to survive classes, navigate cliques and be in with the right crowd and “cool”. In 100 song-filled minutes 13 – A New Musical is their story, told with energy and humour by all-teen performers. Written by Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown, the songs for this new musical comedy are “smart, magnetic, and upbeat -- sure to speak to and captivate current, former, and soon to be teens.”

Following a state-wide talent search between July and October, 13 – A New Musical will star 42 talented Victorian teenagers, with many performers having professional experience including appearances in Australia’s Got Talent, Mary Poppins, Billy Elliot and Waiting for Godot.

Producing company Stage Masters said, “We met an amazing display of talented singers, dancers and actors from around Victoria. The professional standard and quality of auditions was outstanding – such a credit to the performing training available for young people in Victoria. Our casting decisions were made really difficult.”

“We have found an incredible array of talent. We’ve got young performers who have starred professionally on stage and screen, finalists from reality TV talent competitions, and even young musicians who are currently in LA signing record deals. We are extremely excited!”
