10th Annual Australian Cabaret Showcase: Winner and Runner Up
The judges of the 10th Annual Australian Cabaret Showcase faced the unenviable task of deciding between a field of eleven rising local cabaret performers.
So challenging did the task prove, that they decided to substantially narrow the gap between the reward offered to the winner and the runner-up. Coming from the various cabaret festivals around the country, the judges decided to produce the runner-up at the full range of cabaret festivals around the country.
First-placed in the Grand Final at The Basement in Sydney on December 22, 2012 was Queensland performer / songwriter Bradley McCaw (pictured), who accompanied himself at the piano in a sequence of original compositions from his show about the history of cabaret.
Runner-up was Amelia Ryan, who performed elements of her cabaret show Storm in a D Cup.
Bradley McCaw receives a prize package including the opportunity to perform his solo show at The Adelaide Cabaret Festival, The Melbourne Cabaret Festival, The Noosa Long Weekend Festival, The Ballarat and Brisbane Cabaret Festivals and in New York at The New York Musical Theatre Festival, all with flights and accommodation. The Ron and Margaret Dobell Foundation will provide a cash prize of $1000, as well as providing travel and accommodation for the New York journey. He will also receive a photographic and design package courtesy of Blueprint Studios, plus publicity for their tour courtesy of IP Publicity.
A more detailed report of the final will follow.
