Female of the Species at Cronulla

Arts Theatre Cronulla's third production for 2019 is The Female of the Species, a wicked adult comedy that walks the tightrope between satire and farce while exploring how the ideology of writers of the 1970’s Women’s Liberation Movement era may have affected some readers. The inspiration for the play was a true-life incident involving Germaine Greer being held at gunpoint by a young student in 2000.

Farce About Houseguest Pest for Perth

HOW far would you go to get rid of an unwelcome houseguest?

It’s a question explored in The Nerd, a produced by Serial Productions at the Old Mill Theatre (WA) during July 2019, written by US playwright Larry Shue and directed by Joe Isaia and Rob Warner.

The story focuses on young architect Willum, visited by ex-GI Rick Steadman – a man he has never met but saved Willum’s life after he was seriously wounded in Vietnam.

Die Fledermaus Returns to Melbourne

The internationally awarded Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Victoria (GSOV) presents a popular light opera gem, Die Fledermaus (The Bat), in only four performances, 26-28 July, 2019, at Darebin Arts Centre, Preston.

Absent from Melbourne’s music scene for ten years, this production features GSOV’s principal singers, full chorus and orchestra, glamourous period costume, dancers whirling to Johann Strauss’ charming waltzes and director Robert Ray’s witty English adaptation of the libretto.

Oliver! Wants Some More in WA

CONSIDER yourself at home with the award-winning musical Oliver! at the Koorliny Arts Centre in July 2019.

Presented by Laughing Horse Productions and directed by Adam Salathiel, the show is based on the Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist and follows the adventures of a young orphan in 19th century England.
