Gold Coast Return Season for Doubt

When Director Michael Lill first read Doubt by John Patrick Shanley he knew instantly that he had to direct a production of it.

So he’s naturally thrilled to be given the opportunity to reprise Doubt as a co-production with the Javeenbah Theatre Company in January.

Doubt explores moral uncertainty. Set in a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, a strong-minded nun wrestles with conscience and indecision as she is faced with concerns about one of her male colleagues.

South Pole Expedition for Sydney Stage

On 17 January 1912 Captain Robert Scott and his team arrived at the South Pole. Sydney's Genesian Theatre will celebrate the occasion by present Ted Tally's Terra Nova, a play about Scott's ill-fated mission, based on the letters that Scott and his wife wrote, but never saw.

2011 Canberra Area Theatre Awards Nominations

The 2011 Canberra Area Theatre Awards will be presented at a Gala Awards Night at Llewellyn Hall, ANU School of Music, Canberra on Saturday 25 February, 2012.

The awards have been part of the theatre, dance and musical scene of Canberra and surrounding districts since 1994.

Companies and schools involved stretch as far afield as Dubbo in the North, Griffith in the West, to Albury Wodonga and Merimbula in the South.

The nominations announcement and reception was held at Teatro Vivaldi, Arts Centre ANU, on Monday 12 December 2011.

THIRD ANNUAL GOLDEN PALM GOLD COAST AREA THEATRE AWARDS

489 nominations from 55 productions ranging from Redlands in the north to Ballina in the south were narrowed down to 95 finalists in the 3rdannual Gold Coast Area Theatre Awards, presented on December 6, 2011 under the guidance of M.C. Ian Stenlake; star of Stage, Screen and Television.

The capacity audience enjoyed Ian’s opening song and dance routine and then eagerly awaited the judge’s decision in the 27 catagories on offer this year. The atmosphere was exciting and tense.

The Lyrebird Awards, recognizing and celebrating theatre in the outer Eastern region of Melbourne, were established in 1994. Their motto is to ‘Foster the spirit of entertainment.’

Nominations for the 2011 Lyrebird Awards have been announced, and are listed in alphabetical order of companies.

The Awards will take place on February 11, 2012.

Deliciously gruesome Grimm fairytales for Perth

MAGIC, menace and mayhem are being let loose at Playlovers in Floreat in December 2011 – but it’s all in the name of art.

A selection of the best fairytales by the Brothers Grimm are being brought to life as part of Grimm Tales, adapted for the stage by Carole Anne Duffy and directed by Amanda Crewes.

“The production is full of all the magic and wonder you find in your imagination with a little pinch of mischief thrown in,” Crewes said.
