Willoughby Alive With The Sound of Music
Willoughby Theatre Company on Sydney's North Shore is presenting The Sound of Music, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Tony and Oscar Award winning musical inspired by the lives of the von Trapp family, at The Concourse, Chatswood this May, transporting audiences to hills of Austria for an evening of love and nostalgia.
The Sound of Music tells the story of Maria, a novice nun who finds her true calling as a governess to the von Trapp children and falls in love with their widowed father, featuring songs including “My Favorite Things”, “Edelweiss”, “Do-Re-Mi”, “Climb Ev'ry Mountain” and the title song.
The production is directed by Adam Haynes, who has helmed community theatre musicals including Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and Catch Me If You Can, with choreography by Janina Hamerlok, under the musical direction of Callum Tolhurst-Close.
The cast features Felicity Caldwell (Fran, Strictly Ballroom & Sophie, Mamma Mia!) in the leading role of Maria Rainer, with Marcus Hurley (Jean Valjean, Les Misérables & Chris Scott, Miss Saigon), as the Captain, and Tisha Kelemen as Mother Abbess (Rosie, Mamma Mia!).
Director Adam Haynes said, “We are thrilled to bring this timeless classic to the stage with an all-star cast and crew of local talent, who are dedicated to bringing this timeless story to life for both old and new generations to enjoy. I feel an immense responsibility to do justice to this cherished musical, so it’s an honour to contribute to the rich legacy of The Sound of Music”
The Sound of Music runs May 12-27, 2023 at the Concourse Theatre, Chatswood
