The Wedding Singer Ushers in New Era for The Hills

The Wedding Singer Ushers in New Era for The Hills

The Hills Musical Society’s first show in its new venue, the stage musical version of The Wedding Singer, hits the stage at the Castle Hill RSL on June 13, 2013.

Breaking technology’s stranglehold on society, the production of The Wedding Singer promises to take audiences back to a time before Facebook, before the internet, before mp3s, before One Direction and Taylor Swift; back to a time when hair was big, parachute pants were cool, and CD players were only for the rich.

Based on the film of the same name starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, The Wedding Singer is set in the whirling synth-pop heavy world of the 1980s.

The show tells the story of Robbie, a jilted wedding singer who meets the girl of his dreams Julia, a waitress, while working a gig. Unfortunately for Robbie, Julia is engaged to marry business-savvy Glen Guglia. With a little help from his band-mates, Sammy and George, his grandma, and even Julia's best friend Holly, Robbie may end up singing at his own wedding - and Julia's too!

The Hills Musical Society has been operating for over 40 years. This year, the society has chosen to bid farewell to its old home and move to the Castle Hill RSL, allowing for produce slicker productions, giving audiences a more comfortable and authentic theatre experience. David Russell, director of The Wedding Singer, is excited to have opportunity of directing the first show in the new venue, claiming that “the move to Castle Hill RSL allows me, as the director, the opportunity to stage this show with more spectacular sets and lighting and give patrons a more complete night out. The Wedding Singer is such a fantastic show and will really benefit from this new venue”.

So put down your iPhone, pause the PlayStation and head out to see The Wedding Singer.
