Stagecraft Community Theatre Conference at NIDA

Stagecraft Community Theatre Conference at NIDA

Jemma Rix will be the keynote speaker at the Association of Community Theatre’s tenth conference, to be held at NIDA on October 1 and 2, 2016.

ACT – an umbrella organisation for 150 community theatre companies - holds a conference every two years with seminars aimed at performers, directors and backstage theatre participants.

Jemma Rix – now a major star of the musical theatre stage - cut her teeth at Gosford Musical Society before working her way up to star as Elphaba in Wicked and more recently in Ghost.

The conference, which includes three meals and a weekend of seminars by NIDA lecturers and community theatre leaders, costs just $140 – subsidised by ACT’s public insurance liability scheme.

Amongst the many highlights are the following seminars.

A practical demonstration of the role of dance in musical theatre by ACT patron Nancye Hayes AM.

A seminar on writing for the stage by opera and musical writer Dennis Watkins.

How to make props from household items by Col and Bob Peet.

Using social media to publicise your shows by Michele Lansdown.

Others seminars cover Directing, Audition technique, Sound and Light, Copyright (guest speakers major agents), Shakespeare, Production and Budget management, Small Set Building and Chorus movement.

On Saturday night ACT will also honour the most deserving volunteers in its Hall of Fame awards.
