Savoyards Present Nice Work Premiere
Savoyards Musical Theatre Company Brisbane is producing the Queensland premiere of the Broadway musical Nice Work If You Can Get It, inspired by material of Guy Bolton and P. G. Wodehouse and full of songs by George and Ira Gershwin. at the Iona Performing Arts Centre, Queensland, 24 September – 8 October, 2016.
It's 1927 - the Gatsby era and Prohibition rules. Alcohol is illegal. But when three bootleggers hide 400 cases of gin in the basement of the New York mansion of a witless playboy, all hell breaks loose. Prohibition was never this much fun. The new Broadway musical, Nice Work If You Can Get It, is Gershwin music, tap dancing, hilarious antics and gorgeous costumes, all set against a beautiful Art Deco set - there was never more gold satin and blue velvet on a stage.
Nice Work If You Can Get It is the story of charming and wealthy playboy Jimmy Winter, who meets rough female bootlegger Billie Bendix the weekend of his wedding.
Jimmy, who has been married three (or is it four?) times before, is preparing to marry Eileen Evergreen, a self-obsessed modern dancer. Thinking Jimmy and Eileen will be out of town, Billie and her gang hide cases of gin in the basement of Jimmy's Long Island mansion.
But when Jimmy, his wife-to-be and her prohibitionist family show up at the mansion for the wedding, Billie and her cohorts pose as servants, causing hijinks galore.
Featuring a cast of 28 and a live orchestra playing gorgeous Gershwin tunes, Nice Work is full of ridiculous antics, tap dancing, gorgeous costumes and art deco delight.
This show is suitable for the whole family.
