Rockdale Opera Company Announces International Star José Carbó as Co-Patron
Rockdale Opera Company has recently had the great fortune of appointing another Patron, no less than internationally renowned baritone and OA favourite José Carbó. Jose is now co-patron of the Company, along with his good friend Daniel Sumegi, who is another world-renowned opera singer. Both these epically talented men had their operatic beginnings on the stage of Rockdale Town Hall, singing for Rockdale Opera Company in numerous productions.
José said helooks forward to being able to help in any way he can towards the continued survival, development and success of the company and his beloved art form.
We asked José why he was happy to take on the role of co-patron. “As an up and coming singer, I was fortunate to have performed five roles with Rockdale Opera Company. Since establishing my professional career, I now consider it an honour and a responsibility to ensure there continues to be a platform which will enable the company to further prosper and adapt to the requirements and demands of present day live operatic entertainment”.
José went on to say, “It is vital we succeed so future generations of singers can continue to have the opportunity and a platform where they can learn their trade and ply their craft and gain much needed and valuable performance experience, as I and all that came before me have had”.
“I have many practical and strategic ideas, some of which involve collective, community based campaigns and initiatives, which I believe can help the company thrive long into the future. Having already met with the committee on a number of occasions, it is clear that we share the same passionate commitment for opera and live performance across a wide range of genres. However, I am aware that this group of dedicated and talented individuals also needs to be supported in every way”.
Straight away José is “putting his money where his mouth is” so to speak, by agreeing to perform along-side international and Opera Australia star, soprano Emma Matthews at the Rockdale Opera Company’s Gala Fundraising Concert this April 8. They will be joined by emerging operatic artists and the company ensemble in a program of highlights from opera, operetta and the works of Gilbert and Sullivan. Tickets for this one-off concert are available by going to the ROC Website: www.rockdaleoperacompany.com.au
