Rockdale on a Musical High with Reefer Madness
Satirical musical Reefer Madness is set to light up Sydney’s musical theatre scene when it comes to Sydney’s Depot Theatre from June 1, 2016.
Reefer Madness is a musical satire based on the 1936 instructional film seen in American schools - originally intended to warn of the dangers of marijuana.
Writers/composers Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney took the much-mocked cult film and created an all-singing, all-dancing parody.
Rockdale Musical Society brings the show to the Depot Theatre, Marrickville - in Sydney’s inner west - for a limited season from 1-5 June.
The over-the-top, campy story begins with a Lecturer informing the audience of the new drug menace, Marijuana, which threatens the American way of life.
He tells the story of a young high school student, Jimmy Harper, whose life is turned upside down by the "demon weed". Jimmy spends all of his time in the Reefer Den ignoring his family, school, and most importantly his girlfriend: the quintessential all-American sweetheart, Mary Lane. He eventually realises the error of his ways; but it’s too late to turn over a new leaf! Jimmy must pay the price of Reefer Madness!

Directed by Hannah Barn, Musical Director Courtney Josh and Choreographer Sasha-Lee Saunders, this production stars Paul Adderley as The Lecturer, Joshua Ridge as Jimmy Harper, Cassidy Rae Gaiter as Mary Lane, Brad Facey as Jack Stone and Jesus, Stephanie McKenna as Mae Coleman, Ethan Harvey as Ralph Wiley, Georgia Vella as Sally DeBanis, Montana Josh as the Placard Girl, Amelia West as Roxy and Jacob Barn as Goat Man, plus an ensemble featuring Keeley Hickey, Izzy Hanley, Alyssa Simpson, Madalene Simpson, Annabelle Radford, Lily Hayman, Rhiannon Bateman, Alexis Panaretos, Jacob Barn, Greg Robinson, Joseph Nalty, Nathan Maynard and Jonathan Hugeaud
