The Regals Musical Society Presents Kiss Me, Kate
The Regals Musical Society is staging Cole Porter’s timeless, award-winning musical Kiss Me, Kate at Rockdale Town Hall from 12-20 October 2024.
Kiss Me, Kate is a witty and vibrant reimagining of a Shakespearean classic, blending the charm of the Bard's work with the lively world of 1940s Broadway.
Kiss Me, Kate follows a theatre troupe staging a musical version of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. The show’s lead actors, who are ex-spouses, struggle with their offstage love-hate relationship, mirroring the onstage drama. Chaos, comedy, and romance ensue both on and off the stage. With an unforgettable score by Cole Porter, including classics like "Too Darn Hot" and "So In Love," this production promises to be a must-see event for musical theatre lovers, or anyone keen for a night of laughs!
Co-directors Mel Hogan and Tim Martin, musical director Jonah Eskander, and choreographer Chris Bamford are all about keeping the energy high and the vibes fresh, promising a show that’s as fun as it is faithful to the original.
"We are excited to bring this timeless musical to our community," said director Mel Hogan. "Our team has been working tirelessly to create a show that not only entertains but also celebrates the rich history of musical theatre."
In Kiss Me, Kate, John Hogan plays Fred Graham, the commanding director and star who juggles his role as Petruchio with his unresolved feelings for his ex-wife, Lilli, portrayed by Georgia Kokkoris. Georgia brings fiery energy both as Katharine and offstage as Lilli. Jasmine Agyropolous adds playful charm as Lois and her counterpart Bianca, while Benjamin Oliver brings humour as the carefree Bill Calhoun and Bianca’s love interest Lucentio. Together, they deliver a dynamic and engaging performance, blending onstage and offstage drama with flair.
They are supported by a talented ensemble cast, dancing and singing their way through large production numbers, as well as a 14-piece orchestra to do justice to the gorgeous tunes.
Tickets for Kiss Me, Kate start at only $39 and are available now at TheRegals.com.au
