Our Man In Havana: High Octane Spy Spoof

Our Man In Havana: High Octane Spy Spoof

Our Man in Havana at Javeenbah Theatre (Nerang, Queensland) is something of a cautionary tale: be careful what you lie about because some of it may come true... and people may die.

Written by Graham Greene, and adapted for the stage by Clive Francis, the satirical comedy lampooning an inept British Intelligence Service, MI5, plays from May 24, 2013.

The play follows the story of James Wormald, a vacuum-cleaner salesman living in Cuba. He spends his days drinking in seedy bars and worrying about his daughter's expensive spending. When a visiting Englishman "recruits" him to the Secret Service, James sees this as an opportunity to climb out of debt.

Director Eric James says he’s looking forward to bringing the high-octane spy spoof to the stage.

“There are four actors in this show performing more than 30 roles,” he said.

“The cast absolutely work their socks off with constant high-speed entrances and exits and changes of clothing and characters – they do not sit still for a second.

“It’s a fast-moving, hilarious and satirical romp,” he said.

‘Our Man In Havana was adapted into a film of the same name in 1959 starring Alec Guinness as the main character James Wormald.

“James Wormald is hilarious. He just keeps digging himself deeper and deeper until the panic rises along with the body count,” Eric said.

“Anyone who is a fan of farce and fast-paced comedy will enjoy this show.”

Our Man In Havana runs at Javeenbah Theatre from Friday 24th May to Saturday 8th June 2013. Tickets are $25.00
