Opera in Cabaret at Rockdale

Opera in Cabaret at Rockdale

Rockdale Opera launch their 2016 Season with the Company presenting a fund-raising Cabaret on 2nd April 2016, entitled Rendezvous at Orlofsky’s Cabaret.

Reminiscent of a bygone era where socialites gathered together to enjoy beautiful music in a relaxed cabaret setting, the program will provide a selection of opera, operetta and Gilbert and Sullivan works for local audiences with some all-time favourites including “Vienna City of my Dreams”, “Vilja” from The Merry Widow, “Lenski’s Aria” from Eugene Onegin along with highlights from the upcoming production of Orpheus and the Underworld.

This is the second time Rockdale Opera Company has held this event, following last year’s inaugural cabaret.

Audiences sit at tables of eight and tickets include a complementary drink and nibbles to enjoy throughout the performance.

One of the featured artists this year is Arncliffe’s Megan Chalmers, who is no stranger to the Rockdale Town Hall stage, having thrilled local audiences with such performances as “Climb Every Mountain” in The Sound of Music as well asleading roles inmany previous Rockdale Opera productions.

This year Megan is thrilled to have her daughter Zoe Yalouris join her on stage in the ensemble. With both mum and dad (Stephen Yalouris) being opera singers, Zoe has been lucky to inherit great vocal chops.

“Its such a delight being able to share the stage with my daughter, I’m very lucky that she shares my passion for great music!” said Megan.

The program will be directed by Ingrid Sakurovs.
