Nunsense for Javeenbah Theatre

Nunsense for Javeenbah Theatre

With Nunsense following close on the heels of a recent production of Doubt, and nuns dressed in full habits running around Javeenbah Theatre, locals could be forgiven for thinking a religious order had taken up residence at the theatre on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

In reality, the ‘nuns’ are madly rehearsing for Javeenbah Theatre’s next production – the musical Nunsense.

Dan Goggin’s musical comedy follows the story of the Little Sisters of Hoboken who must raise money to bury four sisters who died after eating tainted soup. After spending the money on a plasma TV for the convent, the nuns need to perform a show to raise the money for their sisters’ burial.

Director Iain Hogg said he is very excited to bring Nunsense to the stage.

“The musical is very ‘tongue and cheek’ but a lot of fun,” he said. “The songs are toe-tappingly entertaining, the characters heavenly hilarious and the storyline weird, but wonderful.

“We have an incredibly talented cast who can all dance, sing and act brilliantly.”

“This show is very unique in that it has music, dancing, comedy and even an audience quiz.

“We have been rehearsing since the start of December and cannot wait to bring Nunsense to the stage.

“We were lucky that Doubt was staged earlier this year so our costume designer already knew how to sew habits. But with five nuns in the cast, she was kept busy making them all.”

The show will run Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from March 16 – 31, 2012, with a Sunday Matinee on March 25th. Tickets are from $15.00 and can be booked online at www.javeenbah.org.au or by phoning 5596 0300.
