Mrs Markham Moves Over at Castle Hill

Mrs Markham Moves Over at Castle Hill

The Castle Hill Players (NSW) conclude 2011 with one of Britain’s most popular Whitehall farces, Move Over Mrs Markham, from November 18 to December 10.

Written in 1969 by English playwrights Ray Cooney and John Chapman, the play features mistaken identities, titillating situations and risqué remarks.

Set in June 1953, the play takes place in an elegant top floor London flat belonging to Philip and Joanna Markham. The story follows a night in the life of married couple Philip and Joanna as they struggle to hide the adulterous affairs of their friends Henry and Linda Lodge. The presence of Alistair a frustrated interior decorator, Sylvie the flirtatious maid, Miss Smyth a famous eccentric children’s author and the unexpected arrival of Walter Pangbourne and Miss Wilkinson all add to the comic mayhem.

Director Julia Griffiths said “Despite being a farce, the play introduces audiences to characters that you actually care about with relationships that really do matter. You can’t help but warm to the characters and their antics.”

The set has been created to showcase what was cutting edge design in the 1950’s and the inclusion of elaborate authentic costumes and actual music from the fabulous 50’s sets the scene for that era.

So if you love opening and closing door comedies and are looking for a laugh out loud entertaining night out during the festive season be sure to come along and see Move Over Mrs Markham.
