MLOC Witches of Eastwick a Family Affair

MLOC Witches of Eastwick a Family Affair

MLOC (Victoria) is presenting The Witches of Eastwick from June 15 to 23, 2012 at the Phoenix Theatre, Elwood.

The cast is a family affair, with six sets of family members out of just over forty performers. These include mother and daughter teams Loretta and Ebony Richardson, Lucy and Lily Nicolson and Barbara Mendleson and Amy Howden. Married couples include Margot and Colin Sephton and Margaret and Paul Boyd, while Amber and Kayla Krause are sisters.

Loretta Richardson who is performing with daughter Ebony says, “It has been some time since we have performed together, but each time that we do, it is something that we both treasure. We are each other’s best and worst critics.”

Husband and wife team Margot and Colin Sephton enjoy doing shows together. Margot says, “We met at MLOC in Brigadoon, had an engaging performance in The Boyfriend, and now enjoy the gossip of Eastwick together, 12 years later.”

The musical comedy is written by John Dempsey and Dana P Rowe, based on the novel by John Updike and the 1987 movie starring Jack Nicholson. The show is set in the 1980s in the quiet mid-west American town of Eastwick, where three single ladies wish for the perfect man. The mysterious, charismatic Darryl Van Horne arrives … and so the magic begins!

The Witches of Eastwick is directed by Jane Court, with musical direction by Martine Wengrow and choreography by Merilyn Young.  “The themes of The Witches of Eastwick include morality and repression, but it is also a fun show for most audiences”, says Jane. “The town itself becomes almost a character, with its power strong in keeping the community in line and muted when the mysterious stranger, Darryl Van Horne, seeks to lead them astray.”

“Michael Young plays Darryl Van Horne with Erin Keleher, Lucy MacVicar and Susie McCann as the three Witches, plus Lucy Nicolson and Colin Sephton as Mr and Mrs Gabriel. Lucy Nicolson's daughter, Lily, plays the role of the strange little girl who warns the town of forthcoming trouble.”
