Jolly Holiday as CLOC’s Mary Poppins Kids Go Fly a Kite
When CLOC Musical Theatre’s of Mary Poppins hits the stage at the National Theatre in St Kilda in May, amongst the cast of 38 for are seven talented, confident and very excited young performers, aged between 10-12, who were selected from 80 children who auditioned for a coveted role in this much anticipated production. Keep your eye on these names as future stars of the musical stage – Mackensie Young and Alexandra Denovan (who are sharing the role of Jane Banks), Joshua Vass and Caleb Waterworth (sharing the role of Michael Banks), and Molly Dale, Ivy Ingles and Jack Moeller, who are appearing as part of the ensemble.
These seven have come from all parts of Melbourne and have enthusiastically managed to fulfil their rehearsal commitments on top of school, sport, family and other extra‑curricular activities – no mean feat, especially for the supportive mums and dads who have had driving duties as well as ongoing family commitments for these seven as well as their (in total) sixteen siblings.
All seven youngsters say that their efforts have been well worth it as they excitedly count down to opening night. After some discussion, they all agree that their biggest challenge and achievement has been learning to spell that pesky “supercali...etc:” word, complete with hand signals – and fast!
This stage production includes all of the classic songs from the film, including Chim Chim Cher-Ee, A Spoonful of Sugar, Jolly Holiday, Step in Time, Feed the Birds, Let’s Go Fly a Kite and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, as well as new songs like Practically Perfect and Anything Can Happen.
Mary Poppins runs from May 15-30 at the National Theatre in St Kilda for twelve performances, including three matinees.
