The Lights are Back on at Arts Theatre Cronulla
Arts Theatre Cronulla is thrilled to have commenced a full season of plays for 2022 following the major interruptions to Sydney’s live theatre scene over the past two years due to the Covid lockdowns. Two plays meant to run in 2020 and then 2021 are now scheduled for this year, the first being Life Without Me by award-winning Australian playwright Daniel Keene and directed by Natalie Banach.
Set in a 2-star hotel lobby, capturing the emotional truth of the almost absurd characters, this is a funny, honest and heart-warming story full of whimsy and wit, observing a mix of seven drifters in search of the concept of happiness, an eccentric fable about taking up residence and trying to move on. As the playwright explains “"Who are the characters in my plays? They are mostly people without privilege, who have no ‘position’, who have no power. Why do I choose to create characters like this? Because I want them to bring nothing with them, to have no biography, to be nothing to begin with. I want to create characters about whom there is little the audience can assume …”
The show runs till Saturday 19 March with performances on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, with three Sunday afternoon matinees at 2pm. Tickets are $30/$27 and can be booked online via the theatre’s website: www.artstheatrecronulla.com.au
