Central Coast Hosts New Version of Antigone

Death.  Dissent.  Destruction.  This is Antigone!

Every day we make choices. Often they are minor moral choices: should we buy something made in Australia by a highly paid, well protected worker, or something made in a poor country overseas where we don’t know what conditions the worker endures?   Should we water the lawn in a drought?

A PARTY FOR THE DEAD

On Sunday November 9th 2014, Villanova Players had a launch party to celebrate their forthcoming Australian premiere of the Broadway musical James Joyce’s The Dead, which is set around an annual Irish Christmas party. It was a festive affair with the audience treated to three songs and scenes from the musical with the large cast dressed in their turn-of-the-century Sunday best.

Companyis a musical about life, love and all in between. It follows the life of a bachelor, Robert, who is surrounded by his married friends. In between his escapades, Robert must deal with the question of settling down with one of his three girlfriends, or to continue a single life.

Cinderella: Traditional Panto for Mosman

Mosman Musical Society (MMS) will be performing Cinderella in pantomime, in Mosman, for the 2014 Christmas season. The traditional story of poor Cinderella defying her evil step mother and ugly sisters through the fairy godmother’s magic, attending the ball, the clock striking at midnight, and the glass slipper that leads the prince to his love, all feature in this modern stage production. And true to the traditions of British pantomime, the ‘dames’ are played by male actors, the prince by a female and there is plenty of comic stereotype and slapstick humour.

The Bard Meets Andy Griffiths

Double, double toil and trouble … Andy, Danny and Lisa are rehearsing the witches’ scene from Macbeth for English. They find themselves transported from their suburban kitchen onto the opening battle scene in Macbeth after daring each other to drink a disgusting potion they had concocted. Andy, Danny and Lisa take on all the characters of Macbeth surprising each other as they slip from their 21st century way of talking into Shakespearian dialogue.

Bridesmaids Shine in Five Women Wearing the Same Dress

Javeenbah Theatre on the Gold Coast is set to close its 2014 playbill with irreverent comedy Five Women Wearing the Same Dress written by the creator of television’s ‘Six Feet Under’ and ‘True Blood’.

The play by Alan Ball is set during an ostentatious reception at an old-money estate where five reluctant bridesmaids hide out in the upstairs bedroom, each with her own reason to avoid the proceedings below.

The show runs from November 21stto December 6thand is directed by Dawn China.

Anything Goes as Cole Porter Musical Sails in at Limelight

ELABORATE disguises, tap-dancing sailors and good old-fashioned blackmail are proof that anything goes when it comes to stage musicals.

The Cole Porter favourite Anything Goes sails into Limelight Theatre (WA) during November and December 2014, directed and choreographed by Terry Pirlo, with its all-singing, all-dancing tale aboard the ocean liner SS American.

Billy Crocker, played by Pirlo, is a stowaway in love with heiress Hope Harcourt – but she is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.

Gold Coast Theatre Alliance 2015 Launch

On the weekend of November 1 & 2, 2014, the Gold Coast Theatre Alliance held its highly successful launch of shows 2015 at the Helensvale Cultural Centre and Auditorium with special guest stars Daniel Mallari, Lucy McIntosh, Keiarn Chesebro and Ian Lake wowing audiences. Professional MC Gregory Brown conducted proceedings and Patron of CGCTA  & Councillor Lex Bell and Councillor William Owens presented awards along with major sponsors including LocalSearch & Stage Whispers representatives.

Panto Time in Perth with The Wizard of Oz

A FAMILY pantomime version of The Wizard of Oz lands at South Perth’s Old Mill Theatre in late November and December 2014.

In this version from Limelight Scripts UK, Dorothy and Toto are joined by Aunt Em as they travel to Emerald City to gain the wizard’s help to return to Kansas.

On the way, they are joined by Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion and Tin Man – and Elvis Presley, who has been touring Oz and can’t find his way home.
