Killer Sondheim Musical for the Hills Musical Company
The Hills Musical Company are no strangers to the works of Stephen Sondheim. After successful seasons of Sweeney Todd, Company and A Little Night Music, in November 2019 the HMC presents its next musical by the prolific composer: Assassins.
An ever-relevant dark comedy, Assassins explores the minds and motivations of the people who assassinated American presidents. From Lee Harvey Oswald to John Wilkes Booth, this is a thought- provoking look at people behind the headlines, and, in the modern era of American politics, it’s more relevant than ever. After all, the thought of assassinating a president no longer seems quite so far-fetched...
This multiple-Tony Award winning musical will be brought to life by a creative team comprised of co-directors Macintyre Howie Reeves and Monique Hapgood and Musical Director Andrew Groch. The team say of the piece, “This is undoubtedly some of Sondheim’s finest work. The music is sharp, funny, and profound, and the characters’ stories are told through a crafted balance of suspense and comedy. This is a show that will leave audiences laughing and thinking.”
Stephen Sondheim's signature blend of stunningly intelligent lyrics and beautiful music explores the many varied and unusual ways that these outsiders assassinated (or attempted) an American President. A funny, thought-provoking piece, full of eerie parallels to the current political climate, this show is bound to incite discussion and debate.
Playing at the Stirling Community Theatre 8, 9, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23 November 2019 at 8pm and 17 November 2019 at 2pm. Tickets $26-$34 on sale at hillsmusical.org.au
